Gateway Foundation Chicago Kedzie is a sober living recovery home in Humboldt Park. In addition to our sober living program, we also offer outpatient care to support our clients. However, what is an intensive outpatient program?

What is an IOP?

A client comforts another client in their intensive outpatient program or IOPAn intensive outpatient program, or IOP, offers a few hours of addiction treatment services each day, usually five or six days per week. This structure helps people in recovery make the transition to independence while still having regular access to help and support.

At Gateway Foundation Chicago Kedzie, our IOP is in the form of half-day treatment. With daytime and evening options, we aim to work around your schedule as you return to work, school, and family obligations after addiction treatment.

When is Outpatient Care Beneficial?

Intensive outpatient programs offer a high level of independence and responsibility. As a result, outpatient programs are most effective when clients have stable, substance-free homes to return to at night. Maintaining recovery is easiest with a temptation-free space and a strong family support system.

Of course, this ideal is not always possible. For this reason, Gateway Foundation Chicago Kedzie also offers sober living arrangements for clients. This program ensures that clients have a safe place to stay that will help them remain sober.

An intensive outpatient program can also be great for people that aren’t able to leave their obligations behind for an extended stay in a rehab facility. In these cases, an IOP can help clients focus on their own needs without abandoning work, home, or school responsibilities.

How Outpatient Care Complements Sober Living

Many facilities offer just sober living, without the outpatient care component. While providing a safe place to stay while clients work on their recovery is important, it’s not the only piece to the puzzle. Despite their best efforts, many clients require additional support during the transition from addiction treatment to their everyday routines.

In our pairing of sober living and outpatient care, clients can remain in a safe environment while furthering their recovery journey. During half-day sessions, clients can take advantage of the following services:

In fact, one of the perks of an intensive outpatient program is access to a variety of services while regaining your independence. It’s a great way to ease back into your everyday life.
